2002 KA Czubuthan-Mandolynn Hill Farm Handicap, Oct. 26

Grand Masquerade Is the Real Thing In the KA Czubuthan-Mandolynn Hill Farm Handicap

The six-year-old bay mare, Grand Masquerade was never off the fast pace to win the $15,000 KA Czubuthan-Mandolynn Hill Farm Handicap at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, on October 26. The Handicap was for fillies and mares three-years-old and upward. The Monarch AH-sired mare won the one and one-sixteenth mile race in 1:58.76 by a length.

Grand Masquerade's competition was tough. Two major stakes winners of the prior month, Royal Fanfare, the Buzz Brauninger Distaff winner, and the Texas Arabian Rose winner, MW Scarlett Lady, gave Grand Masquerade a real challenge, yet it was another Monarch AH sired mare, Royal Ambiance that set the early pace, holding onto second until the finish line where she came in fourth. Royal Fanfare, also, by Monarch AH, set back and closed well at the stretch to finish second. MW Scarlet Lady, sired by KA Czubuthan was forced to take third place. Amazing Star took fifth.

This makes the fourth consecutive win for Grand Masquerade and puts her record at 22(10-7-1) $59,510. She is proudly owned by Ed Wilson and expertly trained by Elizabeth Brand. Her jockey, Josh Vaid, made Grand Masquerade his first race and first victory at Lone Star where he was destined for another win in the following Arabian stakes race of the day.

Grand Masquerade's dam is Masquerade AH by El Paso. Texas Arabian Breeders Association greatly appreciates the sponsorship of this race by the KA Czubuthan Syndicate and Mickey and Michelle Morgan of Mandolynn Hill Farms.
