2002 Oilman's Cup, Oct. 26

Truly Evolved, Darwinn Wins The Oilman's Arabian Cup

Among a field of seven, in the $15,000 Oilman's Arabian Cup for three-year-olds and up going one and one eighth mile, Darwinn proved his mettle at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. Never far off the lead, Darwinn dominated the race to finish by 4 and ¾ lengths in a time of 2:02.66.

The 4 -year-old bay colt by Ala Croixnoire and out of Dunaforta by Dunajec, pulled ahead of Dynamite III at the ¾ pole. Southern Spirit, by Monarch AH, laying far back, also began his move at the ¾ pole to finish second ahead of Dynamite III, an Okba son. Darwinn's younger, full brother, Digbie, was not far behind.

Darwinn is owned by Kenneth Werner and trained by Russell Werner. This second straight stakes win brought Darwinn's record to 15(6-3-3)$60,507. In addition, this was the second race and second win at Lone Star Park for his jockey, Josh Vaid. Kan You Run, Mickeys Toys, and Pewter Rimal also ran.

The generosity of Carol and Lonnie Crowell, who have sponsored the Oilman's Cup for years is not only enjoyed by those participating in the race, but by the matching contribution the Crowell's donate every year to the Special Olympics in coordination with this race. The Texas Arabian Breeders Association is proud to list Carol and Lonnie Crowell among its membership and sponsors. Thank you, Carol and Lonnie!
