2005 Independence Spring for Fillies and Mares

A Sweet Victory for Orangeblsmspecial

(June 19, 2005 - Retama Park; San Antonio, Texas) Orangeblsmspecial won by 9 lengths in the Independence Sprint for Fillies and Mares. The 4 year old roan filly is owned and bred by Russell Werner, and trained by Mike Furr. Her jockey was Salvador Perez. This is Orangeblsmspecial's second win this year.

The dam of Orangeblsmspecial is BC Flashti (Edenstreak x Eld Cashti), who was a successful racing mare herself achieving 3 stakes wins and 7 stakes placings in her career. Famous sire of the Independence Sprint winner is Monarch AH by Wiking, for many years the all-time top money winning Arabian racehorse in the U.S. and many years leading sire of Arabian racehorses.

Kalsera, ridden by Jose Silva and owned/trained by Robert Vickers, ran second in the 6 furlong sprint, overtaking WMA Solomans Song who came in third. Kalsera, also a 4 year old, is by the Canadian bred, multiple stakes winning stallion KD Kalibor. Third placing WMA Solomans Song is a 6 year old mare of primarily Polish descent, by Ibn Bint Hilyuri.

Other contenders in the 8 horse field were MW Princess Z, MW Scarlet Lady, Cherrys Juliet, MW Taktiki, and Ambyrsheik, finishing in that order. MW Scarlet Lady won last year's Independence Sprint and also won this stake in 2003.
