Dancers First Luv does a break dance

September 28, 2006, Retama Park- The start of the race looked a little rough for Dancers First Luv who came down from Delaware to compete in the Texas Arabian Oaks. She was forced to the outside and bumped with another horse, but her bold jockey Rick Knott took her right out in front to set the pace. He kept her just in front of her challengers until upper stretch when they drew off to win by 4 3/4 lengths. The finishing time was 1:54.33 for the mile race.

Dancers First Luv is a four year old bay daughter of Line Dancer, the amazing runner who earned $373,061 in 29 races. Her dam is BS Wikings Luvbug, by Wiking. Dancers First Luv started racing this year and had 9 tries before the Oaks. She had one win and two stakes placings under her girth coming into the 2006 Texas Arabian Oaks.

Running second in the Oaks was Sandytiki, owned by Sam Vasquez and trained by Mike Furr. Sandytiki was the winner of the Independence Sprint in Texas just 10 days prior (see story page 4.) Amazing Glory ran third. Amazing Glory is owned by Michelle Youngdale and trained by John Youngdale. Other runners in order of finish were Oh Susanna, The Wright Stuff, and Xoala.

Dancers First Luv is trained by Jerry Partin. She is owned by Mark K. Powell of Utah, whose stable of 9 racehorses is led by his oldest runner, Big Burn. Eight year old Big Burn is a $130,000+ earner and still racing. Six of Powells horses are 3 and 4 year olds, and his herd has made him one of the leading owners in the country.
