By Golly Sand By A Nose

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008) – By Golly Sand, owned and trained by Courtney Sarris, won the 1st running of the $10,500 seven-furlong La Estrellita Ranch Arabian Stakes, for colts and geldings, three-year-olds and upward, over a fast track at Lone Star Park on Saturday night.

With Santos Carrizales in the saddle, By Golly Sand found himself at the back of the pack soon after the start before carefully negotiating his way through traffic to grab the lead leaving the half-mile pole. After gaining command at the top of the stretch, By Golly Sand offered everything he had to record a nose decision over the Jerenesto Torrez-trained The Last Danse. It was another half-length back to post time favorite Caitlyns Hot in third. The final time for the seven-furlong journey was 1:33.55.

“Those other horses came after him at the top of the stretch, but when I asked him to dig in he really responded for me,” said winning rider Santos Carrizales

The win improved By Golly Sand’s career record to 10 wins from 36 starts and increased his earnings to $83,630.

By Golly Sand paid $19.80, $6.60, $4.40, runner-up The Last Danse returned $3.60, $2.80, and Caitlyns Hot paid $2.60 for show. Ala Bout Me, Se Bunker Buster, Sharp Cookie, Frynge Benefit, Aireagle and The Tunisian Prince completed the order of finish.
