Favorite BLACK BEACHES shows speedy style in the Grade 3 Lone Star Arabian Fillies Futurity

December 13, 2008- Retama Park - Black Beaches, a beautiful black filly by Burning Sand and out of an unraced Wiking daugther, came into the Grade 3 Lone Star Arabian Fillies Futurity with two wins to her name plus a stakes placing in the Soaring Eagle Distaff Cup. She was by far the bettors' favorite in this race, going off at nearly even odds. Black Beaches used her quick stride in this 6 furlong stake to march away with the winner's share of the $20,300 purse.

Finally Sue, a bay filly by Haffir El Rimal, was a winner coming into the race and showed her gameness by jumping out of the gates to set the pace. She was overtaken early on, only able to chase the heels of Black Beaches as they widened their gap over the rest of the field. Black Beaches crossed the finish line 3 lengths ahead of Finally Sue, who had nearly a 14 length lead over the rest of the fillies.

Heavenly Blis turned in a performance better than her form predicted, and finished third. This daughter of Line Dancer pulled off a 1 1/2 length finish over stakes winner Kayschndig who came in fourth.

Both Black Beaches and Finally Sue were bred by Jane Teutch, and both are trained by Elizabeth Brand.

The complete field of finishers in order were Black Beaches, Finally Sue, Heavenly Blis, Kayschndig, Vinda Kate, Chndaku, and La Arba, the final two whom were first time starters. The stake payed to 6th place so nearly all the owners were rewarded with a check. Congratulations to all who participated and made this another great race.

GOLLY BRET earns his second stakes win in the Grade 3 Lone Star Arabian Colts & Geldings Futurity

December 13, 2008- Retama Park - Golly Bret shot out of the gates with a stride like a thoroughbred and set a clear pace in the Grade 3 Lone Star Arabian Colts and Geldings Futurity. He held the lead throughout the race, and when challenged in the stretch he responded well to urging of jockey Jose Figueroa to walk off with a 2 1/4 length victory. Golly Bret, a son of Kador De Blaziet and out of an unraced daughter of By Golly, had already proved his stakes ability winning the Cassels Bruczest stake last month at Lone Star Park.

Qjuick Sand PW, a flashy grey colt with his tail flagged, looked to be Golly Bret's main threat. Qjuick Sand PW chased the pace from the outside and made a solid bid in the final furlong. Not to be denied, Theoretically charged up railside and took over to finish willingly for second. Theoretically, a stakes winner and two time stakes placed earlier this year at Delaware Park, is a son of Doran SBFAR and out of the winning Monarch daughter First Ladie. Qjuick Sand is a prior winner of the Delaware Park Arabian Juvenile Championship, and a son of Burning Sand out of an unraced Juan De Shawn daughter.

Final order of finish was Golly Bret, Theoretically, Qjuick Sand PW, Shotgunn Willie, Chasing Roses, DC West Wing, Aarons Destiny, Filsd Croixnoire, and Too Good. The winning owner and breeder was Sam Vasquez, who has well demonstrated his prowess in Arabian racing - he won half of the Texas stakes in 2008.
