SO BIG IS BETTER IS BEST IN MANDOLYNN HILL FARM STAKES COLTS AND GELDING DIVISION ON RAINY FRIDAY NIGHT

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Friday, Nov. 20, 2009) – Warren Shelley’s So Big is Better, trained by Helen Shelley, made a bold move to take the lead turning for home then held off the late challenge of Frynge Benefit to win the 3rd Running of the ARC-Grade 3 Mandolynn Hill Farm Stakes for Arabian colts and geldings, three-years-old and up, over a sloppy track on Friday night at Lone Star Park. The race was worth $23,400.

Ridden by Roxane Losey, So Big is Better, the 3-5 favorite in the wagering, sat in mid pack on the backstretch behind opening fractions of 24.53 and 50.09 then saved ground along the rail on the final turn before coming off the fence to pass tiring leader Qjuick Sand PW at the top of the stretch.

The five-year-old son of Burning Sand had to fight off the challenge along the rail of second-place finisher Frynge Benefit, who finished just ¾ of a length behind the winner.

Cromwell finished third, another 2 ½ lengths back. The final time for the seven-furlong race was 1:33.00.

With the winner’s share of $11,700, So Big is Better surpassed the $100,000 mark to $111,252 in lifetime earnings and improved his career record to 22-10-4-0.

So Big is Better paid $3.40, $2.20 and $2.10, Frynge Benefit returned $4.80, $4.00 and Crowmell paid $5.60 for show. Le Fromage, Moulin Rouge MAF, Qjuick Sand PW, Ala Bout Me, Sizedoesntmatter, Bush Hog, By Golly Sand, Auroras Rainbow, Golly Bret, and Buddy of Mine completed the order of finish. Status Symboll was scratched.

This race was the 4th of the evening. Due to the inclement weather, Races 5 through 9 were cancelled.
