2013 Texas Six Shooter, Grade 2

LACY VAZ goes gate to wire and adds another stakes victory to his record

February 23, 2013, Sam Houston Race Park- The Texas Six Shooter for 4 year old colts/geldings was hotly contested by six colts covering the 7 furlong distance. They were running for a prize of $30,000 in this Grade 2 stakes event.

In his first start of 2013 Lacy Vaz set the pace and was pressured late by In X Hess, a Dahess son who hauled in from Delaware Park for the challenge. Lacy Vaz was able to prevail for the win by 1/2 length in a running time of 1:34.90. The Nivour De Cardonne son Secret Treasour, also shipping in from Delaware, broke fifth from the gate and moved up steadily to hold 3rd, with Krossfire CS by Kador De Blaziet coming in 4th 3 ¾ off the winner.

“He ran well,” said Lacy Vaz's rider Gerardo Mora. “I knew the five was coming, but my horse kept trying to the end.”

Lacy Vaz is a son of Kador De Blaziet out of Lacy-Jay, and has now emerged victorious in five of his eight career starts. This Sam Vasquez bred and owned colt trained by Juan Ascenscio finished up his 3 yr old season with a record of 7(4-1-1)1-1 and a victory of the Lone Star Futurity, and now begins his 4 yr old season with a Gr 2 win.
