2014 Texas Arabian Colts & Geldings Futurity

PADDYS DAY wins colt division

of Lone Star Futurities in quick time



Retama Park, November 8, 2014, race 2 - Paddys Day came from the back of the field in the Lone Star Arabian Colts and Geldings Futurity.  He rallied to take command, drawing off in late stretch to win by 6 1/2 lengths and covering the six furlong challenge in a quick 1:19.67.


Paddys Day has won 3 of his 4 lifetime starts and ran 4th in the other attempt in a Grade 3. The bay colt is by BURNING SAND and out of AK Loretta by Virgule Al Maury, was bred by Jane Teutsch of Soaring Eagle Ranch in Texas, and is owned by Quarter Moon Ranch. He was ridden by Kelsi Purcell. 


Lazur Hess made a bid for the lead on the final turn but shied from the whip in mid stretch losing ground.  Lazur Hess piloted by Ricardo Chiappe finished a clear second, crossing the wire 9 1/2 lengths of Deebal.  Lazur Hess is a previous Grade 3 Champion, bred and owned by Mark Ashby. This colt is by the famed DAHESS and out of Rzoe Lute, by MAKZAN. 


Deebel finishing third under jockey Gerardo Mora, is owned by Mohamed Al Attiyah and trained by Jerenesto Torrez. This colt was bred by Todd Moak, and is by BURNING SAND out of Queen Kong.


The rest of the finishers in order were Sand Champ, RB So Rich, and Es Mi Cielo.
