2014 Texas Yellow Rose, Grade 2

RB BURN BABY BURN goes wire to wire

in the Grade 2 Texas Yellow Rose Stake

February 22, 2014 - Sam Houston Race Park - RB BURN BABY BURN was bright in the saddling paddock with the look of a winner Saturday night. The field was full of seven stunning 4 year old fillies, including the elegant Dhaan, undefeated in 4 starts, who went off as the favorite. Also a crowd favorite was the coupled entry from Delaware Park, Fullof Foolish Nhess and Royal Richess. But it was RB BURN BABY BURN who broke fast from the gates and led the field around the oval, winning by 7 1/2 lengths for an emotional owner Dianne Waldron of Rosebrook Farm. Both Waldron and her daughter Leah Killingsworth arrived from Florida for the races, and Waldron accepted the trophy in the winners circle with tears of gratitude.

RB BURN BABY BURN is a chestnut filly by US Triple Crown winner TH Richie, and out of Burning Firestar by Big Easy. She was bred in Florida and began her career at Delaware Park achieving 2 victories and placing in 3 other starts. She arrived to Texas in the fall, running 2nd at Retama Park and then winning at Sam Houston earlier this month. She is also a Darley Nominee for the best three year old filly in the USA for 2013.

RB BURN BABY BURN was trained by Jernesto Torrez and ridden by Ernesto Valdez-Jiminez, the same trainer/jockey team who won the Grade 2 Texas Six Shooter for Arabian colts this same night. RB BURN BABY BURN covered the 7 furlongs in 1:33.41.

Second place Dhaan is by Burning Sand and out of Queen Kong by Kong. She was bred in Texas by Todd Moak and is a full sister to Darley Horse of the Year and international champion TM Fred Texas. She is owned by Shiek Joanne Bin Hamad Al Thani. Dhaan was the Texas Champion 3 Year Old filly in 2013, as well as a Darley Nominee.

Finishing third was Royal Richess, by TH Richie out of Royal Atheena, owned and bred by Deb and Alan Kirshner of Cre Run Farm in Virginia. And behind her in fourth was her stablemate Fulloffoolish Nhess. Also bred and owned by Cre Run, she is by Dahess and out of Full Of Finesse, by MHF Eclipse. Both fillies are trained by Lynn Ashby.

The rest of the field as they finished in order were Gogo Dancer CS, My Vaz Is Hot, Laurie Lu and Djets Tigress.
